Fronter: MLE

What is a Managed Learning Environment (MLE)?

An MLE is a secure, managed learning environment, like an online school. It is a management, teaching and learning tool which will, in time, provide all of our pupils with:

  • a personalised learning space with a personal e-portfolio.
  • access to the MLE from within school, at home or at any location with an internet connection.
  • access to their personal content and other information provided by school
  • a wide range of tools for learning and collaboration.

The idea is to provide an opportunity for children to access relevant, interesting and age appropriate learning anywhere and at any time. All that is required is Internet connectivity.

Corpus Christi MLE

We are rapidly developing the use of this in school as a support to teaching and learning. Our MLE is effectively an online school where pupils will find a wide range of resources, links to useful websites, discussion forums and homework activities organised in online classrooms. Pupils will have their own personal login where they can access the MLE.

Our MLE is provided by the company Fronter.

You can access our MLE at: www.fronter.com/lambeth

Why do we need an MLE?

There are many advantages for using an MLE. The MLE will provide enhanced learning experiences and opportunities for children, and help to extend their learning beyond school. In addition it will allow:

  • children to share their work with a greater audience
  • collaboration between pupils both locally and globally
  • teachers to share work and photographs for parents to view at home with their children
  • teachers to post homework or spellings
  • discussion forums
  • a reduced paper trail which will help our Eco-Schools initiative

What does it look like?

Children will be able to access pages relevant to them; individual and class pages, a more general Entrance Hall for your child’s year group, and any the pages of any other groups to which they belong, for example Green Team or School Council.

The priority for 2010-11 is for children to receive login information which will allow parents access to Corpus Christi’s MLE. They will be able to see information such as newsletters, school policies, their children’s class pages and any useful weblinks and photographs.

How safe is the MLE?

All users must have a username and password to access the site.  It is very important that your child’s login is kept safe and private. The MLE system is a secure and controlled environment, which can help your child share their learning in and out of school. To maintain this security, children must look after login details carefully. Children in all years have been told the importance of this, and there will be more e-safety lessons over the coming year.

The photographs on the site are protected and cannot be downloaded or copied by anyone outside school, in accordance with our Recording Policy.
